
John R. August, BVetMed, MS, MRCVS, DACVIM
Dr. John August received his BVetMed degree from the Royal Veterinary College of London and his master’s degree from Auburn University. He is a Diplomate of the ACVIM – Small Animal Internal Medicine and is currently a professor of feline internal medicine at Texas A&M University. Dr. August is the Editor-in-Chief of the 6-volume series of Consultations in Feline Internal Medicine. He is interested in distance education and the use of educational technology in the classroom.
Rob Coke, DVM, DABVP, DACZM
Dr. Rob Coke graduated with his DVM degree from Texas A&M University, and he created an exotic animal service within a suburban veterinary hospital outside of Houston, Texas. After several years of clinical practice, Dr. Coke did an internship in Exotic, Wildlife, and Zoo Animal Medicine at Kansas State University. He continued his advanced training with a Zoological Medicine Residency at the Oklahoma City Zoo in conjunction with Oklahoma State University. Dr. Coke is currently the senior staff veterinarian at the San Antonio Zoo.
Mark V. Crisman, DVM, MS, DACVIM
From 1987 to 2010, Dr. Mark Crisman served on the faculty of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine as a professor in the Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department. He has authored/co-authored over 75 refereed publications and book chapters. His primary research interests include immunology, pharmacology, and inflammation associated with equine metabolic syndrome. He joined Veterinary Operations with Pfizer Animal Health in July 2010.
Robin Dabareiner, DVM, PhD, DACVS
Dr. Robin Dabareiner received her DVM from the University of Minnesota and PhD from Virginia Tech. She did a surgery residency at the Marion DuPont Equine Medical Center and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Currently, Dr. Dabareiner is an Associate Professor of Equine Lameness and Surgery at Texas A&M University. Her hobbies include team roping and rodeo.
Thomas M. Donnelly, DVM, DACLAM
Thomas M. Donnelly received his degrees in veterinary medicine and veterinary pathology from the University of Sydney. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. He is the author/co-author of over 200 scientific and clinical publications, including four chapters in the book Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents: Clinical Medicine and Surgery. He was a founding member of the ABVP Committee for the new veterinary specialty of Exotic Companion Mammals. Although Donnelly is allergic to most mammals, he finds the challenges and diversity of working with exotic pets and their often equally unusual owners constantly gratifying.
M. Scott Echols, DVM, DABVP
Dr. Scott Echols received his bachelor’s and DVM degree from Texas A&M University. He is a frequent lecturer, author, and filmographer. He received the TJ Lafeber Avian Practitioner of the Year award in 2005 and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association Non-Traditional Species Practitioner of the Year award in 2007. Dr. Echols is the Past President of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and is a Diplomate of ABVP in Avian Practice.
Shannon Ferrell, DVM, DABVP, DACZM
Dr. Shannon Ferrell received his bachelor’s and DVM degree from Texas A&M University. He did a small animal internship at Michigan State, a zoo internship at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, and a zoo and exotics residency at the University of California – Davis. He is a Diplomate of ABVP in Avian Practice and has been at the Fort Worth Zoo as a Clinical Veterinarian for the past decade.
Kathryn Fitzwater, DVM
Dr. Kathryn Fitzwater obtained her DVM degrees from Washington State and Oregon State Universities. She has worked in clinical practice for over 22 years, and she has over 4 years of experience with stem cell therapy in horses, dogs, and cats.
Wayne Jensen, DVM, PHD, MBA
Dr. Wayne Jensen received his DVM, PhD in Pathology, and MBA from Colorado State University. He has authored/co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to his responsibilities with Morris Animal Foundation, he is the co-owner of Wellington Veterinary Clinic, a state-of-the-art facility certified by AAHA.
Daniel H. Johnson, DVM, DABVP
Dr. Dan Johnson is a graduate of North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1996 he started North Carolina’s first all-exotics practice. His caseload is made up of exotic pets, fish, wildlife, and zoo species. Dr. Johnson also serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at NCSU-CVM. In 2010, he was certified as a Diplomate of ABVP in Exotic Companion Mammal Practice. Dr. Johnson publishes and lectures nationally on avian and exotic animal medicine.
Angela Lennox, DVM, DABVP
Dr. Angela Lennox graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and is a Diplomate of ABVP in Avian Practice. She was the editor of the Rabbit and Rodent Dentistry Handbook and co-author of Clinical Radiology of Exotic Companion Mammals. Dr. Lennox is affiliated with the Association of Avian Veterinarians and Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, and she is the owner of Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic of Indianapolis.
F. A. (Tony) Mann, DVM, MS, DACVS, DACVECC
Dr. Tony Mann received his DVM from the Ohio State University. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Dr. Mann served as the President of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Dr. Mann is the Ombuds for the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. He is the Director of Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Services and Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery Service Chief at the University of Missouri-Columbia Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.
Anna Osofsky, DVM, DABVP
Dr. Anna Osofsky received her bachelor’s degree from Brown University and DVM from the University of California – Davis. She did a rotating small animal internship at Louisiana State University from 1999-2000 and an avian/exotic pet medicine residency at UC – Davis from 2001-2004. She has been a member of the AAV research committee since 2003. Currently, she is an Associate Veterinarian at Carrollton West Pet Hospital.
Kristina Palmer-Holtry, RVT
Kristina has been a Registered Veterinary Technician with the State of California since 1989. Since 1983, she has worked in veterinary private practice and at the University of California – Davis, Veterinary Medical Teaching hospital since 1989. Kristina has worked primarily in the Companion Avian and Exotic Pet Medicine and Zoological Medicine Services. Her main focus is nursing and anesthesia for exotic pets. Kristina was featured on the cover of Veterinary Technician Magazine in May 2004, and currently serves as an editor for Vetlearn. Kristina looks forward to teaching veterinary students and residents the skills required for working with these fascinating creatures.
Joanne Maureen Roesner, DVM, DABVP
Dr. Joanne Roesner received her DVM in 1986 from University of California at Davis in 1986. She serves on the ABVP Symposium sponsorship committee and works at Loving Hands Animal Clinic as the Medical Director.
Allen J. Roussel Jr., DVM, MS, DACVIM, Dip. ECBHM
Dr. Allen Roussel received his DVM degree from Louisiana State University. He completed a residency and master’s program at Purdue University in 1984. He is currently a Professor and a Food Animal Clinician in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at Texas A&M University where the caseload is primarily beef cattle and meat goats. His primary research interest is paratuberculosis. He is board certified in the ACVIM and the European College of Bovine Health Management. He has authored/co-authored over 60 refereed papers and given presentations at over 100 local, state, national, and international meetings.
Liza Wysong Rudolph, LVT, CVT
Liza has worked as a veterinary technician since 2000. She is a credentialed veterinary technician in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. She actively supports the profession of veterinary technology by acting as a Charter Member and Chairperson for the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Clinical Practice, lecturing on advanced topics for veterinary technicians, and publishing informational articles.
John Rush, DVM, MS, DACVECC, DACVIM
Dr. John Rush has a special interest in drug and dietary therapies for the treatment of heart disease in small animals. Currently, he is a professor and serves as the Associate Chair for the Department of Clinical Sciences at Tufts University, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dave Stoll
David L. Stoll is a past Chairman of the Animal Law section of the State Bar of Arizona. He is a partner with the Phoenix law firm Beaugureau, Hancock, Stoll & Schwartz, P.C. where he has practiced for over 26 years in the fields of insurance defense and personal injury litigation, including veterinary malpractice defense matters. In addition to his civil litigation practice, David appears regularly before the Arizona Veterinary Medical Examining Board.
Anneliese Strunk, DVM, DABVP
Dr. Anneliese Strunk received her DVM degree from Texas A&M University. She completed an internship in Exotic Animal, Wildlife and Zoo Medicine at the University of Georgia and a residency in the Companion Avian and Exotic Pet Medicine Service at the University of California at Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. She spent four years in the Avian/Exotic Department at a large referral hospital in New Jersey, then moved back home to Texas, and has been working in private practice for the last two years, seeing exclusively avian and exotic cases.
Lorelei Tibbetts, LVT
Lorelei received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University and in veterinary technology from Merry College. She has worked with exotic pets since 1997 and currently manages the only exclusively exotic pet practice in NYC. She has lectured for both local and national veterinary meetings such as AAV, MASAAV, and has also taught at local veterinary technician schools.
Dietrich H. Volkmann, BVSc, MMed Vet, DACT
Dr. Dietrich Volkmann completed a residency in theriogenology and received his master’s degree from the University of Pretoria. He served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pretoria from 1987-2000. From 2000-2006, he was an Associate Professor at Cornell and from 2005-2005 was a staff veterinarian at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a teaching professor of theriogenology at the University of Missouri.
Karen Wernette, DVM
Dr. Karen Wernette is a Trust Representative with the AVMA PLIT. She has worked in companion animal practices and at AVMA. She has been the Executive Director for the American Veterinary Medical Law Association and the Association of Veterinary Practice Management Consultants and Advisors. She received her DVM from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and a Mid-Management Development Certificate from the University of Wisconsin School of Business.
Michael Willard, DVM, MS, DACVIM
Dr. Michael Willard is a graduate of Texas A&M University. He did his internal medicine residency at Michigan State University and then held faculty appointments at Michigan State University, Mississippi State University, and now at Texas A&M University. He is a professor of Small Animal Clinical Science and specializes in gastroenterology, hepatology, pancreatology and endoscopy. He has given over 2,400 hours of post-graduate continuing education lectures and has over 80 refereed publications and 100 book chapters. He is a past Secretary of ACVIM and the Past President of the Comparative Gastroenterology Society. His interests are farming, walking, and playing chess (badly, but has fun anyway).
Debra L. Zoran, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVIM
Dr. Deb Zoran graduated from Kansas State University’s CVM and completed a residency at Iowa State University. She is a Diplomate of the ACVIM – Small Animal Internal Medicine. She completed her PhD in Nutrition in the laboratory of Dr. Joanne Lupton. Dr. Zoran is an Associate Professor and Chief of Small Animal Internal Medicine in the Department of Veterinary Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Texas A&M University, where she is actively involved with clinical, teaching, and research activities in small animal nutrition, gastroenterology, and feline medicine.
