ABVP/AAHA Kick-Off Seminar: Social Media and Today’s Veterinary Practice. Bill Schroeder
Gone are the days where facebook, YouTube, twitter, and the like are novelty sites for teens.  Today’s most successful practices understand the need, but few know where to start. This course will provide you the information you need to succeed!

Wet Lab: Tricks and Techniques for Exotic Companion Mammals. Angela Lennox and Dan Johnson
Attendance is limited for this interactive wet lab held at the Veterinary Referral Hospital and Emergency Center of South Texas. Fee is $300. Attendance is limited to the first 30 registrants. Shuttle departs at 12:30pm and returns at 5:30pm. More details coming soon.

KArl StorzDry Lab: Canine/Feline Endoscopy. Mike Willard
Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive approach to the abdomen for organ biopsy, diagnostic techniques and surgical procedures. The lab will use models to develop skills necessary for manipulation of organ structures. In addition, participants will replicate procedures such as liver biopsy, bowel examination, full thickness intestinal biopsy, and resection of tissue using laparoscopic scissors/vessel sealing devices. Fee is $100. Attendance is limited to the first 18 registrants. Lab is on-site.

Sun Rise Session: Obesity: Health and Mobility Risks. Sherry Sanderson
Review of obesity pathophysiology and management and related health risks in dogs and cats, highlighting the importance of weight control for managing joint disease and lameness. Breakfast will be available at 6:30am.

PLITCross Species: Don’t be Doctor A: How to Avoid Malpractice and Board Complaints.
Karen Wernette

The AVMA PLIT trust representatives review thousands of reported claims each year that allege veterinary negligence. Attendees will learn about actual claim scenarios (including poor communication) and how to prevent the common scenarios that lead to allegations.

PLITCross Species: Breaking the Silence: Discussing Errors with Clients.
Karen Wernette

When an adverse outcome is the result of medical error, it requires a particularly thoughtful response on the part of the veterinarian and staff. Attendees will be able to recognize and identify steps to take to respond most constructively and ethically in these situations.

PLITCross Species: What to Do When a Malpractice or Veterinary Board Claim is Asserted. Dave Stoll
This discussion will address what veterinarians should do when presented with a veterinary board complaint or civil veterinary malpractice suit. Topics will include the importance of timely reporting claims to insurance carriers, and what to expect throughout the course of a lawsuit and the administration of a veterinary board complaint.

BayerAnnual Awards Reception and Dinner
We look forward to welcoming all attendees to this annual dinner where we recognize newly certified and recertified Diplomates. $60 per person. Reservation required.
