
1. Candidates must have access to dairy farms within a reasonable distance from the university or practice base.
2. The farms should have facilities for adequately restraining animals for examination and all types of veterinary procedures.
3. The base practice should also have facilities to adequately restrain animals for all types of procedures.
4. An animal diagnostic lab, feed analysis lab, and microbiologic lab should be available for use.
5. The practice or institution must have facilities that provide up-to-date diagnostic equipment necessary for state-of-the-art dairy practice.
1. Ambulatory equipment must be available to provide good on-the-farm management of both individual and herd problems.
2. Necropsy equipment must be adequate to perform routine gross pathological examinations on the farm and at the base facility.
3. Computer equipment should be provided with software available for herd health management.
4. Up-to-date diagnostic equipment must be available to provide state-of-the-art dairy practice.
Professional and ancillary staff must be adequate to handle the caseload.
Diagnostic labs/equipment must be available at the institution or practice or via and extramural source to perform routine diagnostic, microbiologic, his pathologic, immunologic, feed stuffs, and food safety testing appropriate for the capid retrieval of information on individual patients as well as populations.
