Must send four (4) separate cd copies, each containing all Interpretive Summaries submitted. Use ABVP Green recertification labels for Interpretive Summaries.
ABVP Diplomates may submit up to ten (10) Interpretive Summaries of cases that they have managed in their practices for credit towards their recertification. The Diplomate will be notified of the number of credits earned but will not receive any comments about unaccepted summaries. A maximum of 200 recertification credits for Interpretive Summaries may be awarded to each Diplomate. Each Interpretive Summary is worth 20 credits each.
The Interpretive Summaries must be submitted as Microsoft Word documents following the format in the example Interpretive Summaries. The summaries must not exceed 400 words, and the required sections are the title, case description, outcome, implications/applications, and references.
Interpretive Summaries are intended to be brief descriptions of challenging cases that enable the Diplomate to demonstrate clinical expertise in the species category they are recertifying in. The cases may be individual animal or group investigations and should allow the reviewers an opportunity to clearly see the Diplomate practicing ABVP-caliber veterinary medicine and surgery.
The cases do not need to be ones that have unusual or unique clinical features, however, they should encompass the current diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical management techniques that ABVP Diplomates utilize in their practices. Each Interpretive Summary must have a different title, and must reflect a different aspect of clinical practice within the Diplomate's species practice category. No introduction or tables or figures should be submitted, and only a brief written description of vital lab work should be included if it is important to understanding the summary of the case.
At least one but no more than two current references that reflect the current state of published information about the case are required to validate the Diplomate's management of the case as presented. Interpretive Summaries must be written in a professional style with a minimum of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors. Failure to adhere to these instructions will result in an unaccepted summary.
