Examination Information

Location

The exams will be administered November 5-7, 2010 at the Chicago O'Hare Marriott Hotel. A complete exam schedule is available detailing the time of each exam.

Please make sure you have booked a hotel room by calling 800/228-9290 or 773-693-4444, requesting the ABVP reduced rate. In order to obtain the reduced rate, please make your hotel reservations by Thursday, October 14, 2010. Flights should be booked into O'Hare International Airport. The hotel is located minutes from the airport and a complimentary shuttle is available.

Although it does not happen frequently, inclement weather can be a problem in November. Please don't book the last flight of the day and watch for developing weather problems. ABVP has adopted a contingency plan in case of emergency.

Your examination ID card should be presented at the time of the examination. A registration desk will be located near the entrance to each exam room. You will sign in and be asked to sign a confidentiality statement prior to sitting for the exam. Several ABVP Diplomates, including Dr. Denny French, Examination Chair will be on-site to assist with the exam process.

The results from the ABVP exam will be posted on a secured page of the ABVP website and listed according to the identification number on your card. The username and password for the web page will be emailed to you when the results are available. You will receive an email notification when the results have been posted on the website. All individuals taking the exam will receive written notification of the results approximately 60 days after the exam.

ABVP cannot reveal test scores over the phone and all candidates must be notified simultaneously. Upon successful completion of all portions of the exam, you become a Diplomate of ABVP. In order to be a Diplomate in good standing, an annual renewal fee must be paid. Diplomates are billed each July for the fee, which is $220.

If you have any questions or need a hard copy of the exam schedule or contingency plan, please dont hesitate to call the ABVP office at 615/250-7794 or 800/697-3583. Best of luck!

ABVP Contingency Plan

The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners realizes that unforeseen circumstances may prevent a candidate, or a Diplomate in the process of recertification, from reaching Chicago in time to take the examinations. The Council of Regents of the ABVP has stated that examination fees are non-refundable. However, if a candidate or Diplomate finds themselves in an untenable situation at the last moment (i.e.: snowed in at an airport) the following steps should be undertaken:

  1. Call the ABVP headquarters office in Nashville, TN. (1-800-697-3583) and inform the personnel there of the predicament.
  2. There will be ABVP officers on site at the O'Hare Marriott beginning at 8:00 AM on Friday, November 5, 2010. You may elect to call the Chicago O'Hare Marriott directly, (773) 693-4444, and ask to speak to Dr. Denny French.
  3. The ABVP Council of Regents has the capability of granting extensions of eligibility due to extenuating circumstances, such as unforeseen weather difficulties. These extensions are granted only when appropriate documentation and written requests are submitted to the Executive Director through the ABVP office in Nashville, TN. Therefore, if a situation arises that will leave you stranded please do not despair. The intention of the ABVP is to be as accommodating as we can to your needs and desires. We must insist on having knowledge of your predicament at the earliest possible time in order to maintain the integrity and security of the examination process. We appreciate your interest in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.
