Species-specific certification practice categories for veterinarians - ABVP

Feline Practice

Feline practice certificationThe American Board of Veterinary Practitioners is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association to provide board certifications in nine species categories, including Feline. Veterinarians who certify in this category become ABVP-boarded Diplomates, certified in Feline Practice.

Feline Practice should not be confused with Canine and Feline Practice, another of ABVP’s practice categories. Canine and Feline Practice is designed for veterinarians who want to be certified for both cats and dogs. The Feline Practice category is for veterinarians who choose to be recognized as feline-only specialists.

Whether you are considering or actively pursuing ABVP certification in Feline Practice, the following documents will help explain the application and exam process. The Applicant Handbook in particular provides a wealth of information. It is ABVP’s official guide to assisting veterinarians with board certification. Included are detailed instructions regarding application materials, recommendations for exam preparation and much more. Additional resources are also available in the Certification section of the website.
